Also, please consider being part of our successful Silent and Live Auctions by donating an item for auction. You can contact Paula or Alma for more information.

Clean water in Akumal is our priority for 2010.

CEA's Tips to Treat Our Water Well

  • Please don't waste water; make sure faucets are turned off.
  • Protect trees, forests and jungles to prevent soil erosion and sedimentation.
  • Don’t pollute ground water with cleaning solvents, chemicals, cigarettes, or sanitary napkins.
  • Connect your house to adequate drainage systems, septic tanks or wetlands.
  • Separate organics and grease.
  • Use biodegradable sunblocks.
  • Don't leave any trash on the beach.
  • Capture rainwater for use in the garden.

Centro Ecológico Akumal wants to thank Mark A. Bellcourt and his group of students from Minnesota University for all their help during their visit to Akumal.

As part of the course, "The Maya Riviera: Its Land. Its People," they participated in community service with CEA.

The students cleaned up the mangroves in front of CEA's property, picking up more than two tons of trash!

They also helped restore Akumal Bay's dune, painted CEA's dorms, built a big game for the children at the Akumal Library, cleaned CEA's wetlands, conducted beach clean-ups, and many other things.

We are more than happy with the results, their enthusiasm and everything they gave us. We hope you enjoyed your stay. Thanks lots! Akumal will always welcome you!

Help Us Spread the Word – Our Sea Turtle Program Deserves It

Thanks to all of you who have already helped, but we haven't reached our goal yet!

In April 2010, the International Sea Turtle Symposium will take place at Goa, India. Our Sea Turtle Program will present information on our conservation efforts to protect Akumal's turtles.

We have registered Armando, our "Turtle Man," to participate but a trip to India costs more than our budget allows. We need you! We raise 1,200USD and we still need about 1,800 USD.

CEA's Sea Turtle Program and Armando have worked for many years for our turtles, and we have a chance to share our experience and results internationally, as well as to learn from so many other programs from around the world.
