Miguel Ángel Maldonado is CEA's Marine and Coastal Protection Program Coordinator. He comes to Akumal from Puerto Morelos, where he worked as the head of Investigation and Monitoring in the National Reef Park of Puerto Morelos.
He also worked on different projects related with environmental education programs.
David Placencia is originally from Mazatlan Sin. Since he was young his interest in the environment took him to participate in turtle camps along the Pacific Cost plus in entomology and research methodology courses. At age 17 he moved to Puebla City to attempt to University were he acquires the title of General Biologist. During his career he obtain several academic internships in institutes like CINVESTAV-IPN (2001) working with bacteria Actinobacillus pleuroneumoniae and Entamoeba hystolitica; ICUAP (2003) working with Nitrogen fixing bacteria and finally at ICMyL UNAM (2006) were he finish his studies specializing in spiny lobster (Panulirus argus). During 2005 he took the opportunity of participating as volunteer with GVI monitoring the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and since then his working perspective has focus in studying the sea. He started to work at CEA in 2008 as controlador of Akumal Bay and during 2009 change as Coordinator of the Monitoring program in this organization.
